About
I'm Justin Hamilton. I'm a game designer in Los Angeles, and this is my site.
I've been writing here on and off since 2011. The early posts are about programming and video game development, including a tutorial series on building a shoot-'em-up in Haxe and Kha. From 2017 to 2026 my tabletop role-playing writing lived on a separate blog, Aboleth Overlords; those posts have been folded back in here, which is why most of the archive is tagged ttrpg.
What I do #
- Tabletop design and publishing. I run Cryptic Codex, a small imprint for adventure games. A Blight Upon Sombreval is a dark fantasy adventure, and Primeval 2D6 is my rules-light fantasy game.
- Running games. I referee open tables, in person and online, and I try write about them up here.
- Video games. I make small games and put them on itch.io; the projects page lists them. I've been porting old projects like Space Dregs to the web.
- Tabletop Adventure Games. I started an online community for adventure-gaming folks: a forum and a Matrix space, with more at tabletopadventure.games.
Background #
I've been a software engineer and game designer for over fifteen years. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, plus game design and development certifications from Michigan State University and the California Institute of the Arts. Along the way I've worked on an unannounced title and prototypes at a large game studio, shipped mobile games at an independent studio, built big-data classification and storage systems in enterprise software, done web, cloud and infrastructure work at startups, written medical reporting platforms, and built meteorological software. More on LinkedIn.
This site #
jamiltron.com is built with Eleventy and self-hosted. It's an IndieWeb site: it sends and receives webmentions, accepts posts over Micropub, and the short posts in the notes tag are posted from wherever I am. There's an Atom feed for everything, and one per tag (for example the ttrpg feed).
Elsewhere #
You can find me on Mastodon, Bluesky and GitHub. The best way to reach me is email: jamiltron.blywn@passmail.net.
Now #
Updated October 2026.
- Running my OD&D hack most weekends.
- Porting a few of my old games to the browser.
- Moving everything I publish onto servers I run myself, this site included.
Privacy
Updated October 2026.
This site is a personal blog. There are no accounts, no cookies, and nothing to sign up for.
- Analytics: I run my own copy of GoatCounter to count page views. It sets no cookies and stores no personal information: visits are counted from a short-lived hash that cannot be turned back into an address, and only aggregate numbers are kept.
- Server logs: Like any web server, mine records requests, including IP addresses, for debugging. Logs are deleted after 14 days and are not shared with anyone.
- Preferences: The colour theme and collapsed sidebar sections are remembered in your browser only, using local storage. Nothing is sent to me.
- Responses: Replies, likes and mentions shown under posts are webmentions sent from other people's public websites and social accounts, including copies of my posts on Mastodon and Bluesky. I store the text, name, link and avatar they publish. If one is yours and you want it removed, email me and it will be.
- Third parties: Pages load nothing from other companies: fonts, search and images are served from this site. Links to other sites are governed by their own policies.
- Contact: jamiltron.blywn@passmail.net.
